At Rhosddu school we have built up a strong relationship with Rhosnesni High school which is our local High school. During the transition process which runs all year, the following activities and events take place:
– Year 5 and 6 assembly during the autumn term where the transition lead comes to talk about expectations and life at Rhosnesni High School.
-Throughout the year teachers from both Rhosddu and Rhosnesni High School meet to talk about a project which runs in the Summer, this project then continues in the Autumn term at Rhosnesni. We have found this bridges the gap between the Primary and Secondary school and children from other local schools also participate, so they all start off on a common ground.
-A Google Classroom is set up by the high school for the children to interact, where weekly tasks/challenges are set.
-3 transition days are put in place and consist of the following:
1. A Sports day where all children and their primary teacher go together to take part in various activities, this enables all children to experience the school in a physical sense.
2. 2 common transfer days where the children make their own way to and from the high school, this enables them to experience life as a Year 7 pupil.
– Teachers from Rhosnesni High School come into Rhosddu School and deliver lessons within the various AOLE’s.
– Children visit Rhosnesni High school to watch a stage performance, e.g Matilda, School of Rock etc… which is performed by the drama students.
– Before children go to Rhosnesni, in depth conversations are had with the Year 6 teacher and various teachers from the high school. This ensures the high school staff know each pupil in order for all their needs to be met. This is where each child’s one page profile is discussed.
-Enhanced transition – This is where children that may need some additional support, whether it be educational or a wellbeing need, they attend 4 afternoons in the summer term in small groups.
