Attendance

Good attendance at school can make a big difference to a child’s future. Every moment in school counts and days missed add up quickly. The Welsh Government wants schools to be fun places to learn, explore and discover new things. Places that learners want to go to.

Belonging, Engaging and Participating- Welsh Government Guidance:

Belonging, engaging and participating

We work closely with parents/carers and the local authority to promote regular and punctual attendance at school. Should concerns around attendance or punctuality exist, we share letters with parents and carers to highlight this, may invite them to meetings with the Local Authority Attendance Officer to develop a support package or could request that the Local Authority pursue a Fixed Penalty Notice as a last resort.

Holidays and Leave in Term Time

If you wish to take your child out of school during term time, you must complete a Holiday Form (see useful links). We strongly discourage taking time off due to the impact this has on your child’s learning. Please be aware of the following:

  • The law states that there is no automatic right to absence for a family holiday during term time.
  • The headteacher does not have to authorise holidays in term time other than in exceptional circumstances.
  • Exceptional circumstances can only cover a maximum of 10 school days per school year.

The headteacher will take into consideration the following points before making a decision about the request

  • Attendance history
  • The stage of your child’s education
  • The time of year (e.g. exams. planned school events)
